Tropical Wedding Makeup Tips

It can be hot and humid in the tropics so how do you keep your makeup on in these trying conditions?

You always want to look your best but especially if you are getting married, you really want to be sure your wedding makeup is going to last.

Kewarra Beach bridal makeup. Stunning brunette bride with burnt orange wedding theme colour. soft curls down around her face, the rest of her hair swept back in a big upstyle with lots of height. waterproof foundation, a soft shimmer of blush on the apples of her cheeks. contouring and highlighting for definition. smoky brown and orange eyeshadows blended. false lashes. the eyes are popping with this wedding makeup.

As a former Channel 9 News Reporter, I’ve been applying makeup in Cairns, in the heart of Tropical North Queensland, for 15 years…five of those years have been spent working with brides, as a qualified wedding makeup artist.

It should be a challenge applying makeup in the middle of summer with 95 percent humidity but I have a few tricks up my sleeve which I’m happy to share.

Hot tip number 2…use a translucent powder.

Once you’ve applied your makeup, finish with a translucent powder to fix and set your look.

Use a large powder brush with soft bristles.

Dip the brush into the powder, tap the excess into the lid and then dust it all over your face, avoiding your eye lids and lashes.

Any brand of translucent powder will do the trick unless you intend to wear your day makeup at night.

Why do I point this out?

Because most translucent powders contain an ingredient called Titanium Dioxide. It gives great sun protection but when it comes to photos it’s a real problem. Titanium Dioxide reflects white against a camera flash so it will make your face look white in photos. Use a brand which contains very low levels of Titanium Dioxide. They are hard to find but some of my favourites are Arbonne’s Translucent Loose Setting Powder, Cinema Secrets’ Colorless Light Touch Ultralucent Face Powder and Face of Australia’s Translucent Loose Powder

The Arbonne range is all botanically based and doesn’t contain any nasty chemicals so it’s very kind to your skin. You can order products at – Arbonne – or if you want a discount, “like” the Finesse Makeup – Cairns Mobile Makeup Artist Facebook page, let me know what you would like and I’ll order it for you.
